Geographer and Drone Data Expert / Caribbean
Precision Aerial Data Acquisition | Photogrammetry, LIDAR, Multispectral & 3D Modeling | Based in Martinique, Serving the Caribbean, South America & Beyond
Who Am I
I am Romain Cruse, a PhD geographer with over 15 years of fieldwork across the Caribbean & Guyanas (Martinique, Jamaica, Trinidad, Guyana, Haiti, Colombia, etc.) and beyond.
Co-founder of Carige, I combine deep territorial knowledge with cutting-edge drone technology to deliver actionable, high-precision geospatial data.
My background includes teaching geopolitics and geography at universities in the Caribbean (University of the West Indies, ICEA, etc.), managing territorial observatories, and pioneering AI-driven classification on drone imagery.
Key strengths:
Intimate understanding of tropical Caribbean/Amazonian environments.
Certified drone operations with high-end equipment (anti-collision systems, parachutes, VTOL fixed-wing for large areas, autonomous systems, SORA, etc.).
Full in-house control from flight to final delivery
Real world projects for agriculture, infrastructure, environment, and urban planning (see below).
What I do
Notable Projects & Achievements with CARIGE:
Development of a custom multispectral sugar content indicator for sugarcane in collaboration with Domaines Thieubert (Neisson Rum distillery).
Creation of a millimeter-resolution digital twin of the historic Gustave Eiffel Lighthouse ("El Faro") on Isla Grande, Panama, for the French Embassy – a high-precision 3D modeling project preserving cultural heritage.
Comprehensive coastal mapping of over 300 hectares of shoreline territory for DEAL Martinique (Direction de l'Environnement, de l'Aménagement et du Logement), and yearly monitoring of the evolution of the Guadeloupean coastline through photogrammetry for the BRGM's Littoral Observatory.
Deployment and operational management of autonomous drone systems tailored for monitoring and inspection of sensitive sites in Martinique
High-accuracy LIDAR surveys covering more than 300 hectares in densely wooded tropical zones, carried out for leading Martinique surveying firms and local authorities (CACEM, CTM, CAP NORD…).
Scanning and inspection of several hundred kilometers of high-voltage power lines for EDF (Électricité de France).
Precise 3D modeling of two major regional ports, supporting infrastructure planning, maintenance, and digital twin integration.
Regular construction progress monitoring via drone during the renovation of airport runways in Martinique, Guadeloupe, and Saint Martin – delivering timely aerial imagery for BOUYGUES.
Semestrial monitoring and volume tracking of quarries belonging to the COLAS and GBH groups, using drone-based photogrammetry and precise volumetric calculations (cubature).
